Aloha from week 17. My week 17 took place in Hawaii. It was a great birthday week and valentines week! As for Cletus, it really liked pineapple juice, pineapple, well pretty much pineapple anything. It also really liked oreos and virgin lava flows, imagine that!!
At week 17 baby is about 4 1/2 to 4 3/4 inches. In the last 2 weeks the weight has doubled, to a whopping 3.5 ounces. A good comparison is that the baby is the size of your hand spread wide open. Cletus is starting to make adipose tissue or fat now. Cletus's fingernails are well formed as well. This is also the time where you can do a Quad screen. Kris an I opted not to do so. It screens for downs syndrome and neural tube defects, but at this point it wouldn't change anything in the pregnancy so we opted not to. Besides, we are going to have another ultrasound here shortly.
I have really began to feel my uterus get bigger. Today my big plan is try on all my work pants and see which ones I can get away with a few more weeks or even days. The maternity wear in anchorage is not so hot, thank goodness i am making a trip to Seattle with my mom for perhaps a better selection of clothing. I have also began to have leg cramps at night (normal) and my round ligament pain after exercising is pretty bad. I can only run once or twice a week because I have to give those ligaments time to recover. No stretch marks yet, no linea negra, no mask of pregnancy. All and all doing well. Here is an array of pictures from Kauai. It takes forever to load so you only get a sample. Most of you will be getting some prints in the mail or you can check out facebook.

Kris and I Kayaking the Wailua river. Yes, i had a paddle too, just set it down to get a picture |
 |
Once we made it up the river we then hiked to "secret falls" we swam under the waterfall for good luck |
 |
This was the longest of our hikes, 8 miles round trip. Worth it to see this beautiful waterfall |

A well positioned sarong does great. Here is a windy self portrait on the beaches of Poipu |

We did some hiking that was truly in the jungle. We also didn't realize how bad the mosquitoes were. I don't have any pictures but by the end it looked like I had measles on my legs |

More of Waimea canyon |

Kauai really does have wild boar. Apparently they are super destructive to the vegetation and spread weeds. Thankfully we never saw one on our hikes |
 |
Polihale state park was the best beach we had ever been too. |
