27 weeks

Tank is growing still but hard to know exactly what size he is. He is very active. He often sits diagonal where I feel a poke at my upper right rib cage and another in my left lower abdomen. He is bigger than a foot, I know that. Average babies are about 15 inches and 2.25lbs. I don’t know if Tank is still large. At my last OB appointment they told me that my uterus wasn’t measuring big (not to worry about polyhydraminos—too much amniotic fluid) so maybe he slowed down? That could just be wishful thinking.
The week had been eventful. On Saturday we had the first 5k of the year. I have participated in this the last 5 years we have been up here. Now it’s even more special because my work is a major sponsor. It’s  a 5k (3 miles). A good way to start the year out. I had all the intentions of walking, but my pride got the best of me. I couldn’t walk when I could jog!! So I am pretty dang proud of myself, finished it in 35 minutes. My slowest time ever but for 6 ½ months pregnant I am content. My body, however, is pretty angry at me! My back and quads are sore, but it’s the whole round ligament, groin ligaments that give me the most trouble. Dang progesterone loosening everything up. It was fun though and it is worth it. Tank doesn’t seem worse for the wear because I am typing he is kicking away! I am also wondering if I have something called SPD, Symphysis pubis dysfunction, which is due to my ligament in my pelvic joint becoming too relaxed. I think I do considering this is where the majority of discomfort and mons swelling is. There is nothing to do about it, just makes me sound like less of a wuss.

We also got some of the big ticket items this week. We got our new Lay-z-Boy which we are quite excited about. Compete with swivel, leather, and three reclining options I am sure it is going to be the chair of the house. We also got our new entertainment center. Kind of nice not having that big bulky thing and it really makes the house look larger. I am pretty happy with all the changes.

Kris got  chia pet. He is going to try to keep it alive. It is  a test before baby (considering I had a horrible dream where he put the baby in the BBQ to keep it warm).

As for the crib…the saga continues but is improving. So I went to target and got the Target Red card, their version of a credit card. Now that I have this they will ship the crib, changing table and dresser for free. So I go home to purchase it online, with my temporary print out card, but there full account number isn’t on it. I call the 1800 number. They can’t give me the full 1800 number until my card comes in the mail, so another 1-2 weeks, an then hopefully less than a month for shipping. AHHHH. That’s ok I guess. We will most likely be co bedding anyways.

We have also decided on a stroller…the BOB expedition. Now, this is a big decision because to be cool you either need a BOB or a Chariot. These are rugged jogging, ski, hiking strollers that are necessary for anchorage. Abbey got a Chariot so it was a big decision, but we went for the BOB because it is very easily collapsible and can be used as our daily stroller as well as a jogging stroller and has an infant car seat attacher. I know this is probably boring to you all but this has been a big decision in our household (not to mention that they cost an arm and  leg). I am looking forward to sending you pictures of me and Tank enjoying long walks in the BOB.
Items that still need to be addressed in the upcoming weeks: Daycare!! Finding a pediatrician, choosing  a name (who needs a name). Heck we still have 13 weeks, probably 15 weeks if Tank is as stubborn as Kris.

Week 26- the crib debacle

Well week 26 is here. Last week of the 2nd Trimester! Tank is a little over 2 lbs and is as long as an English Hothouse cucumber (14inches). The lat 24 hours though, tank has been kicking and moving like crazy. I think he had a growth spurt because at one angle he will be down by my pelvis and the the other is at the top right by ribs. He is packing quite a punch. I can't image 8lbs (or 10) kicking inside me. I burn more calories when he moves right? His sensory and nervous system is developing more and his eyes may even  open this week. I am feeling pretty good. I have at least one day a week where I am exhausted but otherwise am doing good.

We spent all day Sunday looking for a crib--5 hours 10 stores. yes, there are cribs in anchorage but you can't get matching dresser or changing table. Nothing that Kris and I liked were available or in stock. It was very disheartening. So my goal today is to try to see if I can find something that will suffice.

I had to post a picture of my brother in law and his girlfriend because they made my week! They sent Tank a wonderful, inspiring book. I can't wait for all the grandparents to read it to him. I think it will be in our collection for years to come. I have posted the front page later down. Thank you Kreighton and Lisa!!!

Chloe and I went for a hike around Flat top. There is still a lot of snow. She's happy though.

This is how much snow is left up at Flat top

Anchorage has been having beautiful weather. View of downtown from Glen Alps

Our backyard. We are almost ready to start raking. The ground is pretty soggy though. I'm not all that excited to see how many surprises Chloe has for me out there!

Week 25- Spring is in the air

Well this has been a boring week. Kris was gone all weekend camping and came home ill and now he’s off to the slope for work, and I have to work this weekend. We are no fun. I did have an OB appointment today. It went well. Tank and I weighted 166.6, I was hoping that wasn’t an omen. My uterus is measuring normal and tank was moving a lot when listening to fetal heart tones. I also did a 50gram glucose test (the equivalent of 110 jelly beans) to make sure I’m not a gestational diabetic. I get results later this week. So all in all well. Our next big excursion will be to pick a pediatrician.
Typical 25 week babies measure 13.5 inches and up to 2 lbs. From a food standpoint they say it is an average size of a rutabaga. Hair is beginning to have color and texture and wrinkly skin is starting to plump up with fat.  Another big mile stone, Tanks Testicles have descended!! Hooray.

These are from 20 weeks

24 weeks, it's amazing how fast your grow

Week 24-Happy Easter

Liz was gung-ho about finding easter eggs. It paid off. She got a gift certificate to coldstone creamery

Tank is approximately 1 1/4 lbs and is 8-10 inches. The foods comparison is a full ear of corn. At this week Tanks brain is beginning to mature and his lungs are producing surfactant. Surfactant keeps the air sacs in our lungs from collapsing and sticking together.  The basic structure of tank is formed and now he will begin ossifying bones and adding fat. Most pre-term babies that are born at 24 weeks can survive with the help of the NICU. Lets just hope that this isn’t necessary.
We spent easter at Abbey an Kyle Volf's house. It was fun. Good company, good food, and an easter egg hunt.
 Alaska news:
1.       We broke the all time snow record for anchorage! It can go down in history. I can’t wait to tell Tank…I remember back in the day when I had to carry you in my belly and walk through the snow when had over 11 feet!
2.       This is kind of morbid, but because of all the snow, many moose starved and as the snow melts people are discovering dead moose in yards
3.       We are starting to get into spring. It was an awesome 45 degrees. Chloe and I have been going for long weeks.
